Run when: reviewing/producing S&PM sheets (state or local — confirm governing standards first!).

Signs

  • Every regulatory/warning sign justified (MUTCD section noted for anything unusual)
  • Advance placement distances per MUTCD tables for speed
  • Post/panel per Standard Plans 700-series; breakaway & clear-zone sanity (AASHTO Roadside Design Guide)
  • No conflicts: sign-vs-sign spacing, signal head sightlines, vegetation/lighting
  • School zone signing/times per TEM · Street name signs per agency std Markings
  • Lane lines/edge lines: type/width/material per 711 & spec (paint vs thermo)
  • Stop bars & crosswalks: placement/dimensions per Standard Plans; ADA-consistent crossings
  • Arrows: sequence & counts by storage length per standard; RPMs pattern
  • Tapers: lengths per governing formula/standard for speed; transitions signed AND marked consistently
  • Gore/channelization, yield lines (RRFB/roundabout contexts), bike markings per current standards Sheet hygiene
  • Legend matches usage; every callout has an index #; stations/offsets spot-checked; matchline continuity; quantities on sheet foot to tab Example application: first pass = ride the corridor in Google Earth/Street View against the sheets; desk-catches half the misses. Practice question: left-turn bay 275 ft — how many arrows and where (which index answers it)? QA/QC reminder: governing edition (Std Plans FY / MUTCD ed.) written on your review memo header.
