What: the Census Bureau’s LEHD OnTheMap tool — draw any area and map home-to-work job flows (origin-destination): where the people who work there live, and where the people who live there work. KML/shapefile import, CSV export. Why: an independent, official basis for trip-distribution direction splits and internal-capture arguments in TIAs — much stronger than “engineering judgment” alone. When: sanity-checking a distribution assumption, defending internal capture for a mixed-use site, commute-shed figures for context chapters.

Warning

LEHD flows are modeled from administrative records, not counted — synthetic data with noise added for privacy. Use for direction and reasonableness, never as volumes, and say so in the methodology.
