Manual of Uniform Minimum Standards for Design, Construction and Maintenance for Streets and Highways — the minimum standards for roads NOT on the State Highway System (city/county roads), adopted by rule.
Why it matters: most local-agency work (traffic calming, site driveways on county roads, subdivision streets) is governed here, not the FDM.
Warning
Citing FDM criteria on a city street is a classic EIT miss — know which book governs before you check a number.
When:
- any non-FDOT roadway design/review
- local speed, geometry, ped/bike minimums
Example questions:
- min lane width on a local street?
- sidewalk requirements?
- when do local roads defer to FDM anyway (agency policy)?
Spawn: “Which manual governs?” decision note (FDM vs Greenbook vs local standards).
